About the artist

Michael Canetti is a French Australian artist living in Melbourne, who shows at Brisbane's Red Hill Gallery. He graduated from the Sorbonne with a bachelor of Arts in graphic design and a Masters in painting restoration. Canetti has produced editorial illustrations for Elle and Vogue in France, as well as other fashion magazines in Europe. Similar to the traditional art of calligraphy, his work requires a delicate balance between creativity and control: flowing, rounded curves and sharp, sophisticated detail. Painting in Watercolour and gouache allows Canetti to execute the spontaneous disciplined lines to show the movement of the body. His works have been exhibited in private galleries around the world including France, Germany, Austria and Australia.

The artist is represented by Red Hill Gallery, Brisbane.

About the sitter

22 year old Alexandra (Ally) Anderson is an AFLW player for the Brisbane Lions. Anderson was drafted by the Lions in 2016, the inaugural AFLW draft and made her debut in round 1 against the Melbourne Football Club.  She had capped off a stellar year by being voted 2019 AFLW Best & Fairest. Ally was also selected in the 2018 All Australian Squad. A proud indigenous woman, Anderson was born and raised in Brisbane and has a passion to inspire the next generation of young girls, in particular young indigenous female girls. Anderson  prides herself on being a role model for the indigenous community, working closely with JobTrail (Workpac) as a mentor for young indigenous women who work up in the mines.
