About the artist

Dr Margaret Van Maanen has for many years painted portraits of friends and family which have become centrepieces at many significant family celebrations. She describes herself as “2019 pastellist of the year” for her portrait of her son Nathaniel and has shown her love of pastels in her painting of Rhonda White  O.A.  Dr Van Maanen is also a GP who has been in practice since 1981, working on Brisbane’s south side. She devotes her practice exclusively to women’s health, incorporating a natural approach of diet management, supplements and exercise to treat women’s health issues. She has completed a post-graduate diploma in Nutritional and Environment Medicine.

About the sitter

Rhonda White is a prominent Brisbane businesswoman, and art collector. She is also co-founder of the Terry White Chemists Group, where she is renown for her  dedication to the education and development of staff members. She is also a keen art lover and is a proud council member of the National Gallery of Australia. Rhonda graduated as a Pharmacist in 1963 from the Queensland University of Technology and holds a Bachelor of Arts and Postgraduate Diploma in Organisational Psychology from the University of Queensland. She is a board member of the Griffith Institute for Drug Discovery (GRIDD) and an Honorary Life Member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia and an Honorary Life Member of the Pharmacy Guild of Australia. She was inducted into the Queensland Business Leaders Hall of Fame in 2011 in recognition of exceptional entrepreneurship and innovation in national retailing, and significant contributions to the community.
