About the artist
Andrew Bonneau has studied at The National Art School in Sydney, The Charlie Sheard Studio School, the Julian Ashton Art School and the Grand Central Academy of Art in New York. His subject matter includes portraits, figures, still life and landscapes. Andrew has been selected as finalist for many national painting awards. He has been twice selected as a finalist for the AME Bale Travelling Art Scholarship and three times for the Moran Portrait Prize. He was a finalist for the Archibald Prize in 2017, has been commissioned by the National Portrait Gallery, and this year spent 10 weeks in Rome as the winner of the William Fletcher Rome Artist Scholarship. He has exhibited in group and solo shows in Australia, Dubai and the US and has work in private and public collections around the world. Andrew lives in Cairns but regularly travels to Brisbane to teach painting workshops several times a year.

About the sitter
Kevin Walters is a legend of Rugby League. He is the coach of the Queensland State of Origin team and a regular commentator. In his playing career, largely with the Brisbane Broncos, he played in premiership winning teams six times, and holds the record for the most finals appearances. He has enjoyed a long and decorated career. Along with twin Kerrod and older brother Steve, Kevin Walters began playing in Brisbane before joining the Canberra Raiders. He moved to the Brisbane Broncos in 1990, and won the Broncos' Player of the Year, and he later took over the club's captaincy. Kevin Walters has worked as an assistant to master coaches Wayne Bennett and Craig Bellamy, and he worked under Mal Meninga at the Maroons. He has also coached two Queensland Cup clubs and the French Super League club Les Catalans.
