About the artwork and sitter
This portrait by Sophie Sachs is of her fiancé, Andrew Dane. It’s a small, intimate work, and “..is a combination of some of my favourite things; Andrew, miniatures and my home.”
“We have both been working from home for the last few years and as a result spend the majority of our time in this apartment together. This portrait captures a scene that is very familiar to me.
“This work aims to accurately portray an everyday morning in our apartment before work, which is our favourite part of the day.
Although I did take the creative licence to add a snorkel to my Jimny (which you can see parked on the street), something I have always wanted to do. I also gave our apartment a nicer rug.”
Sophie seeks to capture the beauty and intricacy of everyday objects and experiences in her work.
About the artist
After completing a Masters in Architecture, Sophie Sachs worked as a lead designer with Urban Art Projects in public art for 5 years. She now works full time as an artist in her home studio in Brisbane.
