About the artwork and sitter
Roxanne McDonald is an award-winning actress who is descended from the Mandandanjii & Darambal tribes of Central Queensland.
This artwork captures the two equally vivid and contrasting sides of Roxanne’s work and life – her lush and bright side, and her powerful, darker side.
Symbolising both comedy and drama, this work is a graphic portrayal of the unique way that Roxanne embraces different characters, with a natural attitude that blends her acting with the environment around her.
“I wanted to capture Roxanne’s beautiful optimism in a composition that embodies her extraordinary theatrical personality and at the same time, pays tribute to her connection with the land”.
