About the artwork and sitter
It’s been almost 20 years since gusty Brisbane larrikin, Steven Bradbury, speed skated his way into Australian sporting history and the vernacular of a nation. Contrary to public perception Steven didn’t become the first person in the Southern hemisphere to win gold at a winter Olympics by ‘doing a Bradbury’. But that’s a whole other remarkable story, currently being crafted into a movie.
Steven recently launched his own beer, a ‘perfectly paced’ lager brewed in Brisbane. “It was over a few of these beers that I finally secured the ‘Last man Standing’ Sitting! Steven’s gritty determination, self-belief, humility, humour and obsessive will to achieve are the inspirational attributes behind his continued success today and what I most hoped to characterise in this portrait.”
About the artist
Vick Pattison’s passion to paint has ruled her world from the very beginning. Self directed and often unorthodox in her approach, she has built a vast body of work over the decades that is as diverse as the people who have commissioned it.
Today, from her Brisbane based studio, a fascination with people and their stories is inspiring her first major series of large scale canvas paintings.
