About the artist
Peter Fung has been a full time doctor in Brisbane since 1976. He has always been interested in art and loved portrait painting in oil for its rich and vibrant colour and effect. About three years ago he joined the Half Dozen Group of Artists and now attends a portrait painting session every Monday morning “when I can get away from my gynaecological practice”.
About the sitter
Dr Philip Hall is a well known Brisbane gynaecologist and art lover. He is a colleague of the artist, and Fung was attracted to paint him because of his dedication to his patients and his innovative approach to his medical practice over many decades, and also his love for contemporary art. He is a strong advocate of high-quality art in health environments. He curates the collection at St. Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital, and he is well known for encouraging young, emerging artists. He also recognises the importance of supporting indigenous artists.
