About the artist

Maureen Hansen graduated from Queensland University of Technology in 1988 from the first bachelor degree in fine arts.  Since then she has contributed to over 28 group exhibitions and 26 solo shows in Sydney, St Petersburg, London, Adelaide and Brisbane. She has worked as an art therapist with the Wesley Choices Cancer program since 2000. Her succeses in art include winning  2007 Tattersalls Landscape Prize and the Hill End Scholarship – twice. She began her exhibiting with the Ray Hughes Gallery from a residency in the Queensland Art Gallery in 1994 with the Melville Haysome Scholarship. Maureen is a professional singer and artist and sang with her subject David McCormack in the band Miami at Ric’s Bar in Fortitude Valley from 1993-1999.  Hansen is represented in the Parliament House Collection, Canberra, the QUT Art Collection and many private collections world wide.

About the sitter

David McCormack is a professional musician who has  released over 10 albums and was recipient of an APRA song writers award. He is a close friend of the artist and that explains the relaxed atmosphere of the sitting and the flow of conversation while the portrait was being painted directly from Life. David is a seminal figure in the Brisbane rock and roll scene ..a contemporary of Powderfinger and Silverchair, Custard achieved major success and were the only Australian musicians to have a sponsorship deal with Fender aside from Tommy Emanuel. He works with television soundtracks like Doctor Doctor or Rake. David also features in the popular and newly international childrens hit show. Bluey, as the voice of the father Dog.
